Get ready for the first meeting of the year! No membership required. A while back we started the tradition of making our January meeting a group work day. The Quarry Gardens at Schuyler has been our main meeting place since our founding and this is just one way we can express appreciation. We typically ask $10/group for non-members, however with this one, we will take all the help we can get so no cover charge. Besides, this is a great time to come and meet the group.I have been told that we can expect to be collecting and moving brush piles to be burned. In addition we typically pickup and dispose of trash. Waterproof boots might be a nice thing to have. As far as weather, we want to make sure that everyone is safe so we will make a decision on Saturday whether or not to reschedule. If we do reschedule we will let you all know immediately what the plan is. We have worked in very cold weather before, so if the roads are clear, be prepared to come on out, cold or not. We will end with a nice warm meal indoors. Typically I bring a large pot of soup or curry. If anyone would like to volunteer to take over that task, please email me at B[email protected]. Otherwise I will plan to do it myself. Please dress for the weather and consider bringing boots and work gloves. If you get too cold, we do have a warm indoor space to keep you comfy. I hope to see some familiar and unfamiliar faces!

Please note that we start at 1pm so there is time to finish work before eating a meal together.

On February 9 we will be doing not one but TWO cultivation events! This one is still being finalized. We hope to host it in Charlottesville. This will be a workshop for building and inoculating your own oyster bucket. Harry will bring oyster spawn and walk you through the process. Participants will get to bring home a completed oyster bucket which they can fruit at their own house per Harrys instructions. Members get first dibs on all events. Join us to stay in the loop!

A full-day workshop, includes instruction and all materials included to make an egg basket. These baskets are great for containing and transporting round objects. They’re structurally quite sound for heavy harvests and can hold a surprising amount. They’re also a great candidate for incorporating found & foraged materials once you learn the construction of it.
